To celebrate the end of summer, we decided to go swimming at a "local" (note, we drove 30 miles to go to it) pool with some friends and enjoy the last weekend before James started 7th grade (is he really that old?).
Justin scares me to death around water because he has no fear. He stands on the edge and jumps into our arms, but if we aren't there, he'd still do it. I can't let him out of my sight or arms length for a minute even with a life jacket on. At this particular pool, it made me feel a little better seeing it was heavily designed around children. It made me feel a lot better knowing I could see him, touch him, and he could slide down slides for his size and keep him content for 3 hours. He even decided on his own, that he would go head first down the slide. I had to laugh when the lifeguard came up to him and told him he couldn't do that. He just looked at her climbed out, and went down the slide again, head first. I guess she didn't know that he decides when he will or will not "understand" someone. He was in heaven there and bawled when we had to leave. He is quite the fish and I can not wait to start swim lessons next summer!!
James decided he "could be in the Olympics if he wanted" (as quoted to our sitter) and also decided he loves the diving board. here is a pic of him doing a back flip. I can remember when he was 7 and was clinging to Kevin in the pool because he couldn't swim. After 3 years of swim lessons, jumping from Grandpa's boat, and just being around water more has, made him just as fearless.

LOVE checking in and seeing new pix. Glad they enjoyed the last summer fling so much. Congrats to James on starting 7th grade!!! That was a horrible year for me ~ moving from tiny Matewan WV to Sandusky OH. I did get through that year. Love, Grma P
your pic of James' dive is better than my pic of Peter's dive... :) oh, to be young again! i'm sure Peter did plenty of back flips way back when...
I understand when you say Justin is fearless around the water! My sister was the same way...and one time (she was about 3) after we had all dried off and taken off lifejackets she jumped back in the pool and my cousin had to jump in to fish her out. :) Keep an eye on those fearless ones! :)
Love the pics!
